A stock solution is a concentrated solution from which a final more dilute solution is made. Plant hormones are usually made as concentrated stock solutions then diluted before treating plants.

Inorganic substances and many of the organic materials used to make a tissue culture medium are usually made as stock solutions that are 100 times the required concentration.

Using stock solutions saves time because the solid minerals do not have to be weighed out each time media is made.
