The Association of Official Seed Analysts state that "seed vigor comprises those seed properties which determine the potential for rapid, uniform emergence, and development of normal seedlings under a wide range of field conditions".

Seed vigor tests can provide a grower with additional information that can help predict germination where conditions may not be ideal.
