The dilute soak application method for treating cuttings with auxin is an older procedure where the basal portion of cuttings is soaked in an aqueous (water) solution of auxin. The auxin concentration in low (20 to 200 ppm) and soaking periods are between 4 and 24 hours.

This can be an effective treatment for some cuttings but because of the extended treatment time, most growers opt for treating cuttings with talc or with auxin as a quick dip.
