Runners are specialized stems that develop from the crown of a plant that grows horizontally along the ground and forms a new plant at the nodes.

Plants that produce runners include bugleflower (Ajuga), strawberry geranium (Saxifraga), spiderplant (Chlorophytum) and strawberry (Fragaria). These plants are propagated by removing the rooted daughter plant that forms on the runners.
